The Sophia Deck
The Sophia Deck grew slowly, over many years of sitting with other card decks and noticing something quietly unsettled within me.
I have used many decks over time. Some were beautifully made. Some were rich with symbolism and layered meaning. But often I found that the imagery, while meaningful to the creator, did not always resonate with my own inner landscape. I would find myself trying to interpret the artist’s vision rather than listening for the subtle movement within my own spirit. The image would distract rather than open.
Eventually it became clear that if I was seeking clarity rather than prediction, I needed imagery that spoke in a language already familiar to me. Not louder. Not more dramatic. Simply aligned.
So I began to create my own.
The outcome of that quiet process is the Sophia Deck.
The name Sophia comes from the Christian tradition, where it is used to describe the Wisdom of God. I use the name not as a claim, but as a reminder. When I turn to these cards, I am not seeking foreknowledge or answers about the future. I am seeking a gentler way of recognising the wisdom already present — the wisdom of the Holy One, active within and around my life.
The deck does not replace prayer.
It does not replace silence.
It does not replace sitting in the Holy Presence.
It is simply a visual doorway.
Each card is like a snapshot — a still image of the pattern that may already be forming in a particular moment. Sometimes we can feel that pattern but cannot quite name it. The image gives shape to what is stirring.
The Sophia Deck is unique to this website. It is shared freely here, offered in the hope that it may serve as a companion in reflection for others who seek not prediction, but recognition.
The Sophia Deck consists of fifty-six cards. They will be shared one at a time, without haste, so that each image may be known before the next is introduced.
